This month, our Pre-K students at Jeddah Knowledge International School embarked on an exciting Unit of Inquiry centered around “Family and Friends.” This unit encouraged our young learners to explore relationships, understand the roles family and friends play in their lives, and appreciate the importance of community.
Through interactive activities such as storytelling, drawing family portraits, and creating friendship chains, the children expressed gratitude and affection for their loved ones. Instead of hosting parents at school for Family Day, the students celebrated by creating special crafts to bring home, showcasing their understanding of family dynamics.
One of the highlights of the unit was creating personal family trees, where each child added unique details to represent their family’s experiences and traditions. The classroom buzzed with excitement as students proudly shared stories about their families and friends with one another, strengthening their sense of connection and belonging.
This hands-on approach not only deepened the children’s understanding of family and friendship but also fostered appreciation for the unique bonds that unite us all. As the unit concluded, students reflected on what makes their relationships special, cultivating a greater sense of love and appreciation for those closest to them.

Our third graders have been diving into the concept of self-management as an integral part of daily life, with a focus on character and metacognitive development. This unit centers around four key areas: safety, organization, goal setting, and self-discipline – skills that help shape responsible and independent learners.
We began by exploring what it means to be organized through real-life examples such as being aware of our surroundings, maintaining healthy habits, and coming to school on time, well-rested, and prepared with all necessary materials. After collaboratively defining these criteria, students began tracking their individual and group behaviors, focusing on reflection to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Based on their observations, they set personal goals for improvement, aiming to develop consistent habits of principled behavior, including politeness, respect, and responsibility.
This aligns with our school-wide campaign promoting good manners, fairness, responsibility, and trustworthiness. Students also worked on building stamina and commitment to adhere to their goals, helping them to achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.
Throughout the unit, students engaged in various individual and group tasks, including brainstorming sessions, research activities, and creative projects such as writing, drawing, making posters, and presenting their ideas to their classmates. This unit has been a journey of self-discovery, helping students reflect on their growth and development as well-rounded, responsible members of the community.

Transitioning to the next grade level is a significant milestone in every student’s academic journey. It brings a mix of excitement, anticipation, and sometimes a touch of anxiety. This period of change represents a time of growth, new challenges, and fresh opportunities, and ensuring a smooth adjustment is essential for both academic success and emotional well-being.
For students to navigate this transition with confidence, collaboration between educators and parents is key. Open communication about expectations, academic goals, and the challenges ahead helps students feel supported from all sides. Strategic planning also plays an important role—educators can help students prepare by offering insights into what to expect in the new grade, while parents can reinforce these efforts at home by maintaining a nurturing environment and encouraging productive conversations.
Setting goals is a powerful tool in helping students take ownership of their learning journey. By identifying clear, inspiring academic and personal targets for the upcoming school year, students can channel their energy towards success. Coupling these goals with engaging summer activities that align with their future curriculum can further enhance their preparedness. Whether it’s reading related books, exploring hands-on projects, or joining educational camps, these experiences lay a strong foundation for what’s to come.
Another vital aspect of this transition is the mindset students adopt. Encouraging a positive outlook on change can alleviate the natural anxiety that comes with stepping into the unknown. It’s important to remind students that change is an opportunity for growth, and with resilience and determination, they can conquer any new challenge that comes their way.
Through these proactive measures—goal setting, enriched activities, strong support systems, and fostering a positive mindset—students are empowered to embrace the transition with enthusiasm and self-assurance. This holistic approach sets the stage for a successful and rewarding school year ahead, where students are not just adjusting, but thriving in their new academic environment.

In today’s fast-paced world, good manners often get pushed aside. Yet, they remain the cornerstone of building positive and respectful relationships, both inside and outside the school environment. A simple “please” or “thank you,” holding the door for someone ca significantly impact those around us. These small gestures are not just expressions of politeness—they are signs that we value others and care about how we interact with them. They create an atmosphere of warmth, welcome, and inclusivity that everyone can benefit from.
Within the school community, practicing good manners isn’t just about being polite—it’s about creating a community where everyone feels respected and heard. Listening attentively when others speak, being mindful of our tone and choice of words, and treating both teachers and classmates with kindness all contribute to a culture of mutual respect. Manners also extend to how we behave online; it’s just as important to be kind and respectful in digital spaces as it is in face-to-face interactions.
Good manners aren’t complicated. They don’t require a special set of skills, but they do take mindfulness and effort. As we go through our days, let’s make a conscious choice to be respectful and kind in our interactions. Remember, how we treat others reflects who we are, and by making good manners a priority, we help build a more compassionate and understanding school community.
After all, good manners is the name of the game. Let’s all play it well.

Have you ever considered the relationship between math and music?
At first glance, they may seem like two separate worlds, but they share more in common than you might think. As James Joseph Sylvester once said, “Mathematics is the music of reason.” Both math and music communicate complex ideas and emotions in ways that are uniquely powerful. Just as math helps us understand and structure the world, music uses precise patterns and rules to create harmony and rhythm.
Music is full of mathematical concepts. For instance, the notes we hear are based on mathematical frequencies, and the beats in a song can be understood as fractions. Time signatures, like 4/4 or 3/4, are essentially fractions that dictate the tempo and flow of a song. The pitch of a note is determined by its frequency, a mathematical concept that refers to how many sound waves occur per second. Even scales follow mathematical ratios, with the octave based on a 2:1 ratio. Some composers have gone so far as to incorporate sequences like the Fibonacci series into their compositions to create aesthetically pleasing music.
At our school, we encourage students to explore this fascinating connection. In grade 7, for instance, students engage in an investigative task called “Musical Notes as Fractions.” In this task, students use their knowledge of fractions to calculate note values and complete musical measures. They learn how to equate note lengths with fractions, connecting music theory to arithmetic equivalents, and identifying patterns within musical compositions. Through this process, they justify their mathematical calculations, while also modeling music in a mathematical context.
This interdisciplinary approach enriches students’ understanding, allowing them to see how math and music intersect in beautiful and structured ways.
By recognizing how math and music complement each other, students begin to appreciate the beauty and complexity of both disciplines. From the basic counting in rhythms to the intricate mathematical ratios behind harmonious scales, math is deeply woven into the fabric of music. In both fields, there is room for creativity, exploration, and deeper understanding—making them partners in inspiring innovation and thought.

In today’s fast-paced world, the qualities that make a good leader—critical thinking, empathy, and effective communication—are more important than ever. Interestingly, one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to cultivate these qualities is through reading.
Reading is not just about building vocabulary or gaining knowledge; it’s about shaping minds and hearts. For students, reading opens the door to new worlds and different perspectives. It encourages imagination and emotional intelligence, both of which are vital for leadership. When students read stories from diverse cultures or historical periods, they develop the ability to step into the shoes of others, fostering empathy and compassion—qualities that are indispensable for leaders who must guide with understanding and kindness.
As teachers, reading enables us to stay at the forefront of innovative ideas and methods, fueling our lifelong learning. It encourages us to constantly reflect on our own practices, opening us up to new ways of thinking and teaching. When we share our love of reading with students, we are not just imparting knowledge; we are modeling the very growth mindset that leadership requires. We show students that great leaders are always learning, questioning, and seeking ways to improve.
Parents, too, play a crucial role in cultivating future leaders through reading. Encouraging children to read from a young age not only strengthens their cognitive abilities but also shapes their critical thinking skills. Reading together as a family fosters communication and helps children learn how to articulate their ideas clearly and listen to others. These skills—thinking critically, speaking clearly, and listening attentively—are foundational for leadership in any context, be it the schoolyard or the boardroom.
Books have the unique ability to inspire, teach, and transform. Whether it’s a novel that stirs our emotions, a biography that highlights perseverance, or a scientific text that challenges our understanding of the world, reading pushes us to think deeply and see the world through multiple lenses. These are the same skills that great leaders use to make informed decisions, navigate complex issues, and inspire others.
At school, at home, and in the workplace, readers truly do make better leaders. Reading fosters the intellectual and emotional depth required to lead with vision and compassion. By encouraging a love for reading, we are not only building well-rounded individuals but also nurturing the next generation of leaders who will shape our world for the better.
So let’s embrace the power of books and inspire young minds to pick up a book—not just for knowledge but to become the leaders our world needs.

JKS students along with over five hundred thousand students, globally, are involved in the Model United Nations (MUN) each year. MUN is a rapidly growing activity for students around the world. MUN is especially rewarding for students interested in health, technology, peacebuilding, and human rights.
In the weekly meetings of the JKSMUN Club, students step into the shoes of world leaders. Acting as delegates, they represent different countries at the United Nations, advocating for their assigned nation’s policies on a given topic and ultimately drafting a resolution. This immersive experience allows students to understand international diplomacy and the challenges other countries face, as well as how they might address those issues.
Participating in MUN equips students with a diverse set of skills and knowledge essential for success in school, college, and future careers. They enhance their public speaking abilities, delivering speeches to an audience for the first time. Research skills are sharpened as they gather and synthesize information from a global perspective. Additionally, they learn to craft policy proposals and gain insights into cultures they may not have previously known.
Beyond academic skills, MUN fosters important social competencies. Students engage in discussions about complex issues, practice compromise, and develop leadership qualities. Many discover their unique voices and realize their potential for leadership and collaboration through this experience. Ultimately, MUN empowers students with the confidence they need to thrive.
The JKSMUN Club is student-led, with an Executive Board elected by peers to ensure the smooth operation of this esteemed after-school club.
We take great pleasure in presenting the Executive Board for 2024/2025:

October marks International School Library Month (ISLM), and we’re excited to join the global celebration here at Jeddah Knowledge International School! This annual event highlights the essential role that school libraries play in promoting literacy, fostering creativity, and building lifelong learning skills among students. Our library has come alive with vibrant activities and initiatives, creating unforgettable experiences for our students, teachers, and the entire school community.
This year, we’re proud to introduce our team of dedicated library monitors—enthusiastic student volunteers who are actively involved in daily library operations. From organizing books and assisting peers in finding resources to helping coordinate events, these monitors are gaining valuable leadership experience while enhancing the sense of community in our library.
One of our standout initiatives this month has been the book donation drive, inviting students and families to contribute gently used books. Not only does this add to our library’s growing collection, but it also fosters a spirit of generosity and knowledge-sharing. Each donated book includes a personalized message, transforming our library into a collection of shared stories and connections within the school.
Our Raz-Kids reading sessions have been another highlight, providing students with an interactive platform where they can choose from a range of leveled books. This platform allows students to practice reading at their own pace, which is a great way to improve literacy skills while making reading an enjoyable, personalized experience.
To foster critical thinking and reflection, we introduced a book review initiative where students write and share reviews of their favorite books. These reviews are displayed prominently in the library and on the school’s digital platforms, allowing students to showcase their thoughts and inspire peers to explore new genres and authors.
To keep the excitement going, we’ve lined up even more engaging activities for everyone to enjoy. Students can participate in a mystery book lucky draw, where each selected book comes wrapped with a clue to spark curiosity and add an element of surprise. We’re also hosting creative bookmark-making workshops, allowing students to design their own bookmarks to mark their favorite pages. Additionally, our immersive storytelling sessions bring stories to life with dramatic readings and interactive elements, captivating students’ imaginations and nurturing a love for reading.
As International School Library Month continues, we invite every member of our school community to join in the festivities. Together, we’re celebrating the joy of reading and the importance of learning, discovery, and creativity that our library brings to life every day!

Our journey with the Student Council took off in earnest last academic year, beginning with an exciting project: creating a new Student Council logo. Students teamed up with the Creativity Team, bringing their design talents and fresh ideas to life in a range of innovative concepts. Through thoughtful collaboration and refinement, we’re proud to unveil a striking new logo that embodies the spirit and vision of our Student Council. This emblem reflects our students’ unity, leadership, and creativity, and we’re thrilled to share it as a symbol of inspiration for our entire school community.
This academic year has seen exciting developments in student leadership, spearheaded by the Student Council and working on getting the prefect system up and running across all grade levels. As a school, we value fostering leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, and we’re proud to see these qualities flourish among our students.
Our soon-to-be-appointed prefects will embrace their roles with enthusiasm, contributing actively to the smooth running of school events, supporting their peers, and setting an exemplary standard of conduct. Each grade will have its own set of prefects, ensuring a strong leadership presence across the student body, while providing opportunities for students to develop key life skills.
One of the most successful initiatives led by the Student Council has been the series of bake sales. We have now held five bake sales, each growing stronger and more successful than the last. The energy and teamwork displayed by the council has been inspiring. These events have not only raised funds but have also fostered a sense of community and collaboration within the school.
Through these initiatives, our student leaders are truly thriving, growing in confidence and capability with each new endeavor. We look forward to celebrating even greater achievements in the months to come!

On October 3rd, Jeddah Knowledge International School came alive with excitement and appreciation as students and staff gathered to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. The day began with morning line-up assemblies led by Mr. Ruvhaan and the library monitors, who delivered heartfelt presentations on the significance of teachers and the importance of celebrating their contributions to education.
As the school community reflected on the pivotal role that teachers play in shaping young minds and inspiring future generations, the Activities Coordinator, Ms. Omaima, along with the dedicated maintenance department, worked tirelessly to prepare special gifts for each teacher on October 6th. These thoughtful tokens of appreciation served as a tangible expression of gratitude for the tireless efforts and dedication that teachers pour into their work every day.
World Teachers’ Day holds a special place in the hearts of educators and students alike. Originating from the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers in 1966, this day serves as a global tribute to the invaluable role that teachers play in society. It is a time to recognize their hard work, commitment, and passion for nurturing young minds and shaping the future.
At Jeddah Knowledge International School, the celebrations were a testament to the strong sense of community and respect that exists between teachers and students. The day served as a reminder of the profound impact that teachers have on the lives of their students, instilling knowledge, values, and inspiration that extend far beyond the classroom.
As the school came together to honor and appreciate its dedicated teachers, the spirit of World Teachers’ Day resonated throughout Jeddah Knowledge School, reminding everyone of the transformative power of education and the enduring influence of those who dedicate their lives to teaching.
