JKS follows the ‘Open Door Policy’ of communication through a variety of means such as:
Student Diary (Preprimary – G5) / Student Planner (G6-G12)
The school provides a notebook system. The “Student Diary/Student Planner” is given to students every day to take home. Teachers write notes and comments to inform parents of any concerns. In return, parents can write notes and comments to their child’s teacher if needed. The “Student Diary/Student Planner” acts as a means of communication between parents and the school administration.
The JKS Administrative Letters (Email) and SMS
In order to enhance communication between home and school, JKS has implemented the use of technology for communicating with parents. Important letters are sent through email and, in some cases, via SMS (text message) to parents. The utilization of technology in this manner also promotes the school’s campaign for an environmentally friendly approach by reducing the use of paper.
JKS Student Portal
JKS Portal is a website that is confidential and secure. It serves many purposes, one of which is allowing JKS parents and students to log in and keep track of things like progress reports, attendance, discipline, comprehensive language and math practice (IXL), Raz Kids and Asafeer reading programs, Managebac (a software service for IB schools), and Turnitin (an academic plagiarism detector). The portal is a valuable source of information that keeps the school community updated on the latest events and announcements. Students can access not only their emails through the portal but also a lot of information and resources that their teachers have posted.
The JKS Newsletter
The school administration organizes a newsletter which includes educational articles from the administrative staff, information about the school, students’ achievements, and school events. The newsletter can be accessed through the JKS Portal.
The JKS Website
The school’s website contains crucial information for parents about the school itself, educational programs, facilities, and the student support system. It is imperative that parents regularly visit the website to stay informed about important announcements, and also find examination and revision information for both parents and students.
Introductory Parents’ Meeting
An introductory parents’ meeting is held in the first month of the new school year. This meeting provides information to parents about the curriculum, programs, and activities planned for the year. It also gives parents the opportunity to meet their child’s homeroom teacher, form tutors, and subject teachers.
Student-Led Conference
Starting in Grade 3, a three-way conference is conducted once a year between the student, parent, and teacher in addition to a written report. This student-led conference serves as a chance for the student to present their achievements throughout the year and discuss their personal goals for the remainder of the year. The conference is guided by a document called “Self-Assessment and Goal Setting.”
Selective Individual Parent-Teacher Conference
Whenever there is a need to discuss matters related to a student’s behavior, assessment results, or other necessary topics, an individual parent-teacher conference is arranged. These conferences can be scheduled by the teacher or the parent at any time during the year.
Individual Parent Meeting
Once a year, there is a dedicated meeting for a parent to meet with the subject teachers one-on-one. This meeting gives parents the opportunity to have discussions and conversations with both the homeroom and subject teachers, allowing them to stay informed about their child’s progress and development at school.
Quarterly and End of Term Report
A report containing the academic performance of every student is sent to their homes at the end of every quarter. This report serves as written evidence of the student’s progress in school.
