The Middle Years Programme puts a great focus on the approaches to learning (ATL). These are skills that can be taught and learned, improved with continuous practice, and developed to help the students “learn how to learn”. They provide the foundation for learning independently and with others, and support the students in preparing for and demonstrating their learning through the assessments.
IB programmes identify five ATL skill categories, expanded into developmentally appropriate skill clusters.
