Through the service as action opportunities developed within the MYP curriculum, students “strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.” (FPIP, p.22). The MYP Service as Action acts as the connection between the PYP’s action and the DP’s CAS, ensuring a continuum of opportunities initiated by inquiry, portrayed by responsible and meaningful action, and aligned with critical reflection.
Below is a list of learning opportunities which MYP students should achieve through Service as Action:
i. become more aware of their own strengths and areas for growth
ii. undertake challenges that develop new skills
iii. discuss, evaluate and plan student-initiated activities
iv. persevere in action
v. work collaboratively with others
vi. develop international-mindedness through global engagement, multilingualism and intercultural understanding
vii. consider the ethical implications of their actions.
