This quarter, Grade 2 students explored the impact of their decisions on the environment through the Unit of Inquiry on Sharing the Planet. The central idea focused on understanding the consequences of human actions, especially in relation to pollution and waste. The unit began with an immersive experience in the auditorium, where students were exposed to different types of pollution. They experienced noise pollution through loud traffic sounds, water pollution by seeing dirty water with toy animals floating in it, air pollution with a smoke machine, and land pollution with trash on stage. This engaging provocation sparked deep curiosity and led to a group activity where students reflected on their experiences and brainstormed the central idea. Throughout the unit, students explored three lines of inquiry: different types of pollution, consequences of our actions on the environment, and responsible choices regarding waste. They worked in groups to discuss the effects of pollution, analyzed photos, and watched videos to deepen their understanding. Students also reflected on how their actions can affect the planet and shared ways they could make responsible choices to reduce waste and protect the environment. By the end of the unit, students became more aware of the importance of making sustainable decisions in their daily lives. We are proud of the progress they have made and excited to see how they continue to develop as environmentally conscious individuals.

In our kindergarten class, we explore how the seasons bring exciting changes to the world around us. In spring, the days grow longer, flowers bloom, and animals awaken. Summer brings warm sunshine, with people spending more time outdoors playing and enjoying nature. As fall arrives, leaves turn vibrant colors before gently falling from the trees. Winter brings chilly air, and sometimes snow covers everything in a blanket of white, making the world look magical. Each season transforms the weather, plants, and animals, helping us appreciate the beauty of nature’s ever-changing cycle.
During our cloud sightseeing activity, students decorated paper towel rolls to create their own pretend telescopes. Looking through the tubes, they imagined spotting different cloud shapes in the sky—animals, objects, or even faces! This fun activity encourages creativity and observation skills.

The International Baccalaureate’s curriculum aims to develop critical thinkers who are innovative and knowledgeable. Can this be accomplished in the Artificial Intelligence era? Without warning or preparation, the world has been flooded with AI apps promising to take the hard work out of working hard. How does this approach benefit anyone? Was it not innovation that brought us to the point that we are? Was it not critical thinking that spurred numerous discoveries?
As bleak as this may appear, AI is NOT the enemy at the gates. Rather, it is an innovation aimed at making us work SMARTER not HARDER. JKS has taken the lead in training staff and students on how to use AI ethically and productively.
Can AI make us better students? Definitely. Will AI stifle our critical thinking skills? No. The goal is to ensure that we know how to use Ai to stimulate critical thought and polish our ingenuity and creativity.
The IB is very clear that as schools we need to make AI part of the learning process and to teach students who to use to enhance thinking.
AI is here to stay and the sooner we learn to harness its potential; the better learners we will be come!

As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, we are reminded of the values that define this sacred time—compassion, generosity, and self-reflection. At JKS, both MYP and DP students are coming together to embrace the spirit of giving through our “A Season for Caring” initiative.
This season is not only a time for fasting and prayer but also an opportunity to extend kindness to those in need. Through various activities such as charity drives and acts of kindness, our students are learning the true meaning of empathy and gratitude. The Ramadan Charity Drive, where students contribute essential food items, is just one example of how our school community is making a difference.
We encourage our students to use this time to reflect on the importance of gratitude, patience, and generosity—values that go beyond the classroom and shape us into responsible global citizens. Together, let us make this Ramadan a season of care, unity, and meaningful impact.
We look forward to seeing our MYP and DP students lead with kindness and embody the spirit of Ramadan in all they do.
Ramadan Kareem!

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the art world, but is it a tool for creativity or a crutch? AI can assist artists by generating ideas and automating tasks, but over-reliance on it may hinder students’ ability to think critically and creatively. If students depend too much on AI-generated images, they risk losing essential problem-solving skills and originality.
In our art classes, we try to prevent this by encouraging hands-on creativity, emphasizing foundational skills, and setting clear guidelines on AI use. We focus on building artistic independence by promoting critical thinking, experimentation, and the development of personal styles. Students are challenged to generate their own ideas, explore materials, and understand the creative process rather than relying on AI shortcuts.
While AI can be a useful tool, we believe that true artistic growth comes from exploration, making mistakes, and personal expression—things that no algorithm can truly replicate.
Ms. Magda Botha

Something that provides human-like interactions with software and offer decision support for specific tasks, is AI, The Artificial Intelligence, but it’s surely not a replacement for humans. The goal of AI is to provide software that can reason on input and explain on output.
It was largely thanks to two computer scientists, Alan Turing and John McCarthy. Turing is considered the “father of AI” due in part to his work introducing the Turing Test in 1950.
Further, AI Lab, founded by John McCarthy in 1963 was the first step in developing AI.
AI is a branch of computer science that aims to build machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.
AI has now become our daily life partner. Digital Assistants (Alexa), Search engines (Google), Social media, Online shopping, Robots, Transportation and navigation (GPS system), Text editing and autocorrect, Fraud prevention and many more. Can you now think of a life without AI?
With all the talk of artificial intelligence (AI) over the last years, it’s hard not to get excited about the future.
However, it is important to remember that we must act ethically and responsibly while integrating AI into our workflows.

When it comes to science, art, industry and even economy, Math has always been a major part of how the world works. Lately, however, something thrilling is going on: Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has immerged as a powerful tool in education that helps students learning by providing detailed explanations, logical thinking methods, and even proposing tailored practice problems.
Have you ever used an app like Photomath to check a tricky equation? Or perhaps you considered asking ChatGPT to understand a complicated concept? Using AI to assist in solving everyday math problems is only scratching the surface. Mathematics is actually central to many AI-driven innovations. Mathematical algorithms help predicting the weather forecast, allows cars to self-drive safely, and can even transform video games to becoming more realistic! That is why we should delve into the AI realm as the more we truly understand it, the better we can use it in Math or in other domains too.
AI, however, remains a mere tool and can never replace human thinking. Grasping Mathematical concepts, analyzing the problems and understanding the solutions are tasks that will always rely on us. We can always utilize AI, but real learning is definitely related to our ways of thinking, especially when we explore ways to challenging ourselves, asking questions, and practicing different approaches to solve a certain problem.
So, the next time you use AI to help with math, think of it as a smart assistant, not a shortcut. Use it wisely, stay curious, and most importantly—keep having fun with math.

For students navigating their high school pathways, understanding the distinctions between different curricula is crucial. The IB Diploma Program (DP) and the American Diploma both offer rigorous English A courses, but they differ in structure, scope and assessment.
IB English A: Language and Literature – HL vs. SL
The IB DP English A: Language and Literature course is designed to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of how language shapes meaning. While both HL and SL share core elements, they differ in scope and assessment:
Both levels include Paper 1 (Guided Textual Analysis Essay), Paper 2 (Comparative Literary Analysis Essay), the Individual Oral (IO), and coursework compiled in a Portfolio of Evidence.
IB vs. American Diploma English
At JKS, the literature texts remain the same across all programs, but certain differences still set the IB apart from the American Diploma:
All courses encourage global perspectives, language analysis, literature analysis and independent research skills.
For students looking for a challenging, analytical-driven approach, both IB English Language A as well as the American Diploma Language A provides a structured, analytical curriculum preparing students for various academic and career pathways. Understanding these distinctions can help students make informed decisions about their academic journey and future aspirations.

Jeddah Knowledge International school will be celebration a recycling fashion show early in quarter four. Our grade 6 students will be making hats, grade 7 students will be making vests, tops or jackets, and the grade 8 students will make dresses. Recycling items means that we are giving second life to materials, fabric or materials used to make a clothing item has been made from pre-existing sources. For the fashion show students will use plastic bags, re-used paper, and any other item that they can recycle to transform it into an item of clothing. This is an opportunity for them to use their creative skills. They could use an old pair of jeans and turn it into a jacket, for example. The idea of reusing what already exists saves energy, water and other resources because new materials are not needed.
How do communities get involved?
Communities can set up collection points for old clothes and shoes to be dropped off rather than putting them into a bin which will be destined for a landfill. On the other hand but less! You will be saving the environment and reducing your carbon footprint.
Ms. Prabashinee Pillay
MYP Science Coordinator
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing various industries, including research. With its ability to process large datasets, recognize patterns, and generate insights, AI has become an essential tool for researchers. But the question remains: Can AI be effectively used in research?
AI’s main contribution is in data analysis, where it can rapidly detect trends in large datasets. It also aids in scientific writing and literature reviews, with tools like Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT helping researchers summarize papers, generate research questions, and even draft academic sections, freeing up time for experimentation and analysis.
In schools, AI benefits both students and teachers. Students can use AI-powered search tools to find reliable sources, summarize information, and improve writing by correcting grammar and paraphrasing. AI also helps generate research ideas, structure essays, and provide personalized learning experiences. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many aspects of our lives, including education. As high school students, you might wonder how much you can rely on AI for your essay writing. The answer lies in understanding the balance between using AI as a tool and developing your own writing skills.
AI can be incredibly helpful in various stages of essay writing. For instance, AI-powered tools can assist in brainstorming ideas, organizing your thoughts, and even generating outlines. They can also help with grammar and spell-check, ensuring your essay is polished and free of errors. Some advanced AI applications can provide suggestions for improving sentence structure and coherence, making your writing more compelling.
However, it’s essential to remember that AI should complement your efforts, not replace them. While AI can offer valuable support, the core of essay writing—critical thinking, creativity, and personal expression—comes from you. Relying too heavily on AI can hinder the development of these crucial skills. Moreover, ethical considerations must be taken into account; your work should reflect your own understanding and insights.
Overall, it is clear that AI can be a powerful ally in your essay writing process, but it should be used wisely and ethically. Embrace AI as a tool to enhance your writing, while continuing to cultivate your unique voice and abilities.

Being organized is a key skill that every student should develop—especially in an IB school where we are encouraged to be self-directed, reflective, and principled.
Being organized allows you to effectively plan and allocate time for each task. You can prioritize based on deadlines and importance, making it easier to stay on top of your work.
At JKIS, we value the holistic development of each student. Organization plays a vital role in reducing the chaos that can lead to stress. When your materials, notes, and schedule are in order, you can avoid last-minute rushes and unnecessary anxiety.
As part of the IB Learner Profile, students are encouraged to be reflective. Being organized gives you more control over your learning, helping you to take initiative and become an active participant in your education. This aligns with our school’s philosophy of developing responsible learners who take ownership of their academic journey.
The IB Learner Profile, which encourages us to develop skills that support lifelong learning is directly linked to organization, here are a few traits:
How to Be Better Organized:
In the IB program, students are often juggling multiple assignments. Start each week by setting clear goals for each subject or project. Break down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps and prioritize them based on deadlines and importance. A planner can help you stay on top of deadlines, assignments, and activities. Use it to organize your weekly schedule, track important dates, and create a to-do list. Digital tools like Google Calendar or Trello can also help you stay organized and access your tasks on the go. A clutter-free, dedicated study area promotes focus and concentration. Keep all your materials in order—whether physical folders or digital files. An organized workspace leads to better productivity and reduces distractions.
Being organized is not just about keeping things neat—it’s a fundamental part of becoming a reflective, responsible, and effective learner. At Jeddah Knowledge International School, we aim to nurture students who are well-prepared for the challenges of the future, and developing organizational skills is a vital step toward achieving that goal. By embracing organization, you will not only improve your academic success but also develop habits that will serve you well throughout life.

This year’s event was the result of five to seven months of meticulous planning, strategic execution, and unparalleled leadership displayed by our student council.
As Directors of the Student Council, we took a step back and empowered our Presidents to take the lead, granting them and their fellow council members full autonomy. This decision proved to be transformational, allowing students to cultivate and demonstrate extraordinary leadership qualities, effective communication skills, and exceptional self-management, all while balancing their academic, personal, and school responsibilities.
A Milestone Year for Student Leadership One of the most remarkable aspects of Mark-IT Day 2025 was the way in which every student council member played a pivotal role in its success. This year, we implemented a mixed approach to the event’s structure, which significantly benefited its overall execution. Although we set ambitious goals that, in retrospect, were not entirely realistic or attainable, the dedication and perseverance of our students ensured that we still achieved a ground-breaking milestone.
The event showcased the incredible potential of our students, who worked tirelessly to organize logistics, manage sponsors, and coordinate with participants, making this year’s Mark-IT Day one of the most well-structured and efficiently run events to date. From the moment attendees arrived in the final farewell to our last sponsor and participant, every aspect of the event was executed with precision and professionalism. Breaking Records: Unprecedented Fundraising Success One of the most significant achievements of Mark-IT Day 2025 was the record-breaking funds raised for charity.
This year, we surpassed all previous fundraising efforts, collecting an astounding SAR 350,000—the highest in the history of Mark-IT Day. This monumental accomplishment reflects not only the dedication of our student leaders but also the generosity and enthusiasm of our entire school community and beyond.
The overwhelming turnout of families, individuals, and community members reinforced the importance of this annual event. The unwavering support from students, parents, faculty, sponsors, and attendees alike created an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose, making the event a true celebration of collaboration and social impact.
Mark-IT Day 2025 was not just about breaking records; it was about growth, learning, and leaving a lasting impact. Our student council members demonstrated their ability to lead with confidence, manage high pressure situations, and execute an event of this magnitude with excellence. Their efforts this year have set a new benchmark for what student leadership can achieve, proving that with autonomy, responsibility, and passion, anything is possible.
As we reflect on this remarkable event, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success. From our dedicated student leaders to our supportive school community and generous sponsors, Mark-IT Day 2025 was a true testament to what can be accomplished when innovation, determination, and teamwork come together.
